Calling all Royal Parks Half Marathon Fundraisers

Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon

On 7 October 2012, over 12,000 runners will take to the start line of the Royal Parks Half Marathon. If you’re taking part you could be in with a change to win £500 for your chosen charity.

Although the race is seven months away, our research has shown that the earlier you start to fundraise the more you’ll go on to raise. You could try to boost your fundraising by hosting a cake sale or start a blog to let your family and friends know how tough your training is. By keeping your supporters engaged with your journey to the start line they’ll be more likely to want to help you reach your target.

And to help meet your target one lucky runner will see their fundraising efforts boosted by £500.

To be in with a chance to win the £500 for your chosen charity all you have to do is set up your Royal Parks Half Marathon fundraising page on Virgin Money Giving and receive at least one donation before 30 April 2012.

If you’ve not created a page yet, it’s not too late. You can get started and create your page here.

Also, if you’d still like to take part, and missed out on the ballot the official charities have places available, you can find a list of the charities here.

TeamPB take to the streets in a quirky London Marathon training run

Virgin London MarathonIf you’re still undecided as to which charity to run for at the 2012 Virgin London Marathon the official charities this year are the Prostate Cancer Charity and Breast Cancer Care – working together as Team PB.

Prostate and breast cancer are the most common cancers in men and women in the UK. They’re aiming to raise £1 million over the course of this years Virgin London Marathon.

They’ve made a short film with Neil Fox during one of their slightly more quirky training runs.

If you’ve got a place in this years event, and you’d like to support Team PB you can set up your Virgin Money Giving page here.

You can find out more about their collaboration at http://www.teampb.org.uk or follow @teamPB_UK on twitter (and keep an eye out for any #pantsandbra tweets)

Are you running the Great North Run?

Last week runners from across the country started to receive confirmation of their place into the Great North Run, the largest half marathon in the world. Well done if you got a place!

Now that your place has been confirmed, the next step is to set up your fundraising page and encourage your friends and family to sponsor you.

While the race is seven months away, our research has shown those that set up their page early secure more donations. To set up a page click here (it only takes a few minutes). Remember you can fundraise for up to five charities.

After you’ve found the charities that you want to fundraise for, the next step is to put together a statement telling people about your challenge. Don’t forget to tell people:

  • Why you’re doing it.
  • Why you’ve chosen your particular charities.
  • Any fundraising you’re doing in the lead up to the event, such as a cake sale or raffle.
  • Your fundraising target.

And don’t forget you can add your twitter and facebook feeds to your page and a link to your blog if you have one. You can also embed photo albums or video into the page – you can find detailed information on how to do all of this here.

Great Run Prize Draw: Competition 1 winners announced

Great Run Series

For this years Great Run series we ran a series of competitions to help Virgin Money Giving fundraisers to raise more through their fundraising pages. The first competition prize winners have all now received donations to their pages.

Our first completion was simply about setting a target on your fundraising page.

We learnt from the London Marathon this year that fundraisers who set a target on their page raised 58% more than those that didn’t. Setting a target on your fundraising page gives an indication to your supporters as to how much you’re looking to raise, which influences what they’ll donate. Your supporters are more likely to dig a little deeper before they donate to help you hit it.

Congratulations to the following Great Run series fundraisers on Virgin Money Giving:

Winner - receiving a  £250 Donation to their page
Alan Disberry - Great North Run for Get Kids Going

Runner’s up – each receiving a £50 to their pages
Team Nikon - Great North run for British Red Cross
Simon Adderley - Great North Run for Oxfam
Paul Trotter - Great North Run for the British Heart Foundation
Jenna Cawthorne - Great North Run for Children with cancer UK
Vince Philips - Great North Run for the NSPCC
Katie Powell – Great North Run for Action on Hearing Loss

Good luck for the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon

Virgin Money Giving Cheering Team

It’s the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon this weekend, and we’d like to wish everyone taking part on Sunday the best of luck!

Our team will be there too handing out ‘bang bang’ sticks and cheering boards amongst the supporters to help them enourage along all the runners as well as making as much noise as we can too.

You’ll find Sean, David, Kim, Emma, James and Antony around the start finish area so send your friends and family in our direction if they need any cheering supplies!

Thanks to our friends at adidas, we’ll be wearing the new 2011/12 Virgin Money Giving outdoor range as modeled by the team above.

Don’t forget to update your fundraising page after the event to tell people how the run went, and a new photo of you in your running kit and medal before that final push for sponsors!

Best of luck everyone
