2010 Great North & Scottish Swim cancelled

As you have no doubt already heard from the event organisers due to Blue Green Algae in Lake Windermere & Srtathclyde Loch the 2010 Great North and Scottish Swim has been cancelled.

The organisers of the event are emailing all swimmers with two options, to either receive a refund for your place, or defer until the 2011 event.

Depending on what you choose to do, you’ll need to take some action with your Virgin Money Giving page.

1. Keep your page open, and continue to fundraise for the 2011 event

If you’re planning to defer your entry until next year you can leave your page open and continue to fundraise. We’ll be updating the event date to next year and your page will automatically remain open.

It’s a good idea to update the information on your page to let people know you’re taking part next year instead, other than that just head back down to the pool and get back to your training.

2. Close your page

If you’re not able to defer and swim next year you should close your fundraising page so no further donations can go through.

We recommend you email everyone you’ve asked to donate to let them know that the event has been cancelled and you’re not able to take part next year.

If you’ve already been sponsored, check with your sponsors to see if they’re happy for their donation to be kept by the charity, where its being put to good use supporting the work they do. If they would like to receive their donation back they will need to contact the charity directly and make a request. Contact details for your charity can be found by clicking their logo on your page.

Because we pass all donations directly onto the charity when they’re made through Virgin Money Giving we’re not able to refund donations.
