Christmas Giving – Part 1: Festive fundraising events

This is our first in a series, looking at ways you can do a little something for charity this Christmas and we’re beginning with Festive fundraising events.

December is typically a quieter time of the year for fundraising, with all of the well known runs, swims, cycles, and overseas challenges already completed in the warmer weather. However, Christmas allows events to take on a festive twist including Santa Runs, Reindeer Runs, and a dip in the freezing cold sea.

Festive FundraisingThe Santa Run

Typically not as challenging as the other running events but still plenty of fun, the Santa Run (also available as Reindeer, and Christmas Pudding runs) involves wearing a bright red Santa suit (beard included) and taking part in a short run, usually 2-10k. Santa Runs are as much a spectator sport as one to take part in, so you can invite all your sponsors to come and watch. The sight of 500+ Santas running past has to be seen to be believed.

Santa Runs take place up and down the country, with runs organised as ‘open events’ as well as for specific charities. Entry fees usually start from £15 and include a standard issue Santa suit.

Boxing Day and New Year’s day dips

For the more serious (or mad) fundraiser out there your event of choice will probably be the Boxing Day or New Year s Day Dip. It’s pretty much what it says on the tin. All you need to do is get yourself to the nominated beach and run into the sea with everyone else for a quick paddle. To boost donations you could offer to wear fancy dress or stay in the water for a set amount of time.

If you’re interested in taking part in a festive fundraising event, take a look through our ‘Charity Event’ listings.
