Does your fundraising page have a target?

TargeetIt’s always good to know what you’re aiming for. Whether your challenge is running a marathon, climbing Kilimanjaro, or doing a parachute jump you’ll definitely know when you’re nearly there. In many cases you’ll often get a second rush of energy when you know the finish is just ahead of you.

The same is true of your fundraising!

For many events where you’ve entered with a charity place, they’ll set you a stretching target they want you to raise for them. But even if you’re not given a target, it’s a good idea to set your own.

Setting a target on your fundraising page lets your supporters know what you’re aiming for, and it may even influence how much they donate. Set a higher target and your supporters may be more motivated to donate a little more.

Analysis of fundraising pages on Virgin Money Giving so far for the 2011 Virgin London Marathon shows that pages with a target receive 8% larger average donations than those without!

You’ll easily be able to see how you’re doing against your target, as you’ll see the thermometer rise on your page, like the one to the right.

You can update the target on your page at any time, just sign into your account and edit your page, by following these steps:

  1. Sign into your Virgin Money Giving account and go to ‘update my page’. (If you have more than one fundraising page, click on the one you’d like to update.)
  2. Now choose the ‘amend fundraising page’ link.
  3. You can now update any of the content on your page. On the ‘running total’ panel on the right you can update your fundraising target and your offline amount.
  4. Once you’re done, click ‘save’, and your page will be updated.

My project is a small local school in Sosua Abajo in the Dominican Republic – they are very poor and the need is for both resources like books/stationary etc and food (hungry kids can’t learn and some are very bright – all are hungry for knowledge!)plus rent for the very inadequate accommodation.

I’m just starting so not a registered charity and also have little opportunity to do an event

I’d like to start a page (I have photos and info) but can’t see where it would fit in your scheme

    Advice/help welcome

    Hi Sarah

Through Virgin Money Giving you can currently only support charities who are registered with the Charities Commission in either England, Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland, and have also registered with the HMRC to reclaim Gift Aid.

Unfortunately as you’re not yet a registered charity we can’t help you. However you could try contacting a UK registered charity that does similar work to you, and ask them if they would allow you to raise funds for your project through them.
