Join me on my latest challenge – The Swim

Sir Richard BransonIn just two months time I’ll be taking on my next gruelling challenge – attempting to swim across the Irish Sea to help raise £1 million for Cancer Research UK. The Irish Sea is 56 miles from Holyhead to Dublin – nearly three times the length of the English Channel, and there are sharks and jellyfish! This has only been successfully completed before by a team of swimming professionals and the weather conditions and currents are very changeable which is a huge challenge.

I’ll be joined by Ronan Keating, TV’s Jason Bradbury, Jenny Frost and Steve Parry – who won bronze at the 2004 Athens Olympics in the 200 metre Butterfly event. And there’s room in the team for two more swimmers!

You have until 15 July to get involved and be in with a chance of joining the team! All you have to do is visit www.the-swim.co.uk, register and commit to raise at least £100 for the charity.

To find out more and start fundraising please go to www.the-swim.co.uk. And you can also sponsor our team at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/theswim

I would love to join the team!!!
I’m a decent Open Water Swimmer and would be a great help to get you across the Irish sea.

Nice one Richard, and well done to every swimmer also raising funds.

I am organising a public-participation Open-Water swim event in lake Bala on Saturday 10th Sept.

How would you like to include it as part of your training?

It is only £6 to enter and 100% of that is split 50:50 between Cancer Research and Help for Heroes. We raised over £3000 at a similar event in June.

    Hope you can make it

More details of the June Swim are at: http://www.wrecsamtri.org.uk

Entry form for the Sept Swim: http://www.wrecsamtri.org.uk/documents/Entry/Bala%20Charity%20Swim%20entry%20form%202011.doc

Katherine Macklin at Cancer Research is my liaison point.

Wow! What a fantastic opportunity that would be. Just read about the chance to be in the team in the summer edition of H2OPEN …. Fabulous read. I won the Bala swim that Ray mentions above it was well organised and a great way of raising some money for good causes. Disappointed to be out of the country with the GB Police swim team for the next Bala swim in Sept. Off to swimin an open water event in New York in August. Good luck with the training.
