Skate a Marathon with the Goodwood Roller Marathon 2011

Goodwood Roller Marathon

If running 26 miles around the Virgin London Marathon course isn’t really your thing, but you’d like to give a marathon a go, here’s an event that might be for you.

On Sunday 14th August over 1,000 skaters from all abilities will take to the historic Goodwood motor racing circuit in West Sussex for the annual Goodwood Roller Marathon.

The event draws people from a variety of skate communities such as speed teams, roller hockey, roller derby and longboarders to name but a few. From novice to expert it is all-inclusive and in it’s 6th year of being organised by Camberley Skaters the carnival atmosphere of the event is expected to be bigger than ever, with participants raising money for the NSPCC children’s charity.

11 laps of the 2 ¼-mile circuit will take you the full marathon distance, but if that sounds a bit far you can opt for shorter distance categories (the 2-lap ‘mini’ and 5-lap ‘midi—marathons”) with prices starting from just £5. On the other hand, the extreme endurance fiends can go for the ‘Dual’ double marathon distance. Something for everyone!… and it’s free to spectate.

So why not get together with some of your mates, or encourage your colleagues in the office to get their skates on and join you.

Registration for the event is now open and all skaters are issued with a medal on completion.

You can sign up and find out more details at and for updates you can find them on facebook and twitter.

Once you’ve got your place, get your skates on and create your Virgin Money Giving fundraising page.
