On 18 June 2011, 4 cyclists achieved their goal of cycling 3000 miles in the Race Across America, as they set a world record of 6 days and 3 hours to raise money for Ideas Tap and The Joe Glover Children’s Charity.
Racing from California to Maryland in the race which is 30% longer than the Tour de France, RAAM is considered to be one of the most challenging sporting events in the world. Top riders often finish in just under 10 days, cycling over 300 miles per day and sleeping for only a few hours per night.
Aiming to win the four person mixed title, the RAAM Roses riders Alex Woods, Anna Burrows, Ollie Rastall and Tim Kingswell committed themselves to an intense training programme over seven months in a bid to raise £50,000 for charity.
The Joe Glover Trust is a children’s cancer charity, based in Hampshire, dedicated to helping children who are living with cancer And their families to make it through their journey in the most positive way possible.
IdeasTap is a UK-wide creative network and funding body for emerging arts talent, who aim to bring people together, offering cash funding opportunities and a platform to showcase new and innovative work.
