At the end of May Vikki and her team will be raising money for the British Heart foundation by completing their inaugural London-Brighton night ride at the end of May.
Below is Vikki’s story;
‘My friends are supporting me in my madness! I have Marfan syndrome (a connective tissue disorder) and this has led to me having both my mitral and my aortic valves replaced with mechanical ones … now I tick in double time!
‘I had my mitral valve replaced in November 2007 and my aortic valve replaced in September 2011.
To give me something to aim for as I get back to fitness I decided to sign up for the London-Brighton night ride at the end of May 2012. My friends,
all 14 of them, decided that the best way to encourage me in this was to join in with me!! Others are acting as support crew – I am blessed indeed
in my friends.
‘Why did I choose this charity to raise funds for? Well I can testify at first hand the massive improvements in care for those who have open heart
surgery in the last 4 years and want to show my appreciation to the British Heart Foundation for their research and education. Long may it continue.
‘We will make updates through the blog on our fundraising page as we all prepare … some of the team are having to purchase bikes, lycra and fluro
lights. And all of us are having to get in cycling practice! I am starting from scratch in my training … although I assure you it is many years
since I cycled through a cabbage patch.’
