You may be aware that following the updates to the Virgin Money Giving website, some fundraisers have been experiencing a few issues with updating their fundraising pages. We’ve been working on an update, and it’s currently going through the final stages of testing.
We’re planning to put this live on Monday 12 March during the evening (subject to final testing) that will resolve the issues below:
- Updating the target on a fundraising page
- Setting or updating the offline amount on a fundraising page
- Creating or updating the ‘about me’ section of a fundraising page for users of Google Chrome and Safari
We’re also aware some fundraisers are seeing a red background to their pages. In many cases refreshing your page by pressing [CTRL] + [R] (or [Command] + [R] if you’re using a mac) or clearing the cache on your web-browser will resolve the issue. Our IT team is also looking into this as part of the update.
We’ll post more details to this blog post on Monday with final timings of the planned website update.
Apologies for the inconvenience, and thank you to those who’ve posted on the forums, and in comments to the blog. The details provided during the week have helped us track down the issues.
Update 12/03 @ 10:12:
Following testing of the fixes we can confirm that we’ll be updating the Virgin Money Giving website tonight (Monday 12 March) between 22:00 and 24:00. Once the update has completed the above issues affecting updates to fundraising pages should be resolved.
Update @ 23:25
We’ve completed the changes to the website and Virgin Money Giving is now fully available again.
I can’t edit my page to update it following the Bath half Marathon today. Clicking in the edit box doesn’t do anything. Although I can see my existing page online, going into ‘edit my page’ just produces a blank box with unresponsive icons. You chose a heck of a time to update your system
Hi Shaun
Apologies for the inconvenience, we’re working to resolve the issue, and as long as all testing goes as planned we’ll be updating the website with the fix on Monday evening. It’s likely you’re using Google Chome or Safari. If you can try an alternative browser you should be able to change the information on your page.
We’ll update this blog with more details as soon as we can

Am trying to add a couple of more charities to my page, but I dont have the option? Any advice?
Good luck with the fix guys. You’ve done a sterling job over the last two weeks keeping all the users happy. Pity more IT departments aren’t as conscientious as you lot.
Hi Lee
Once you’ve created your page it’s not possible to update the charities that receive the donations, or adjust the percentage split. If you’ve not yet received donation to your page yet, and want to change the benefiting charity, you can close your page and create another one with the adjusted donation split. If you have already received donations, you can show the amount you’ve already raised in the ‘offline total’
Hope that helps

I nearly submitted a bug report last week because of the problems I was having in Chrome with the text editor. Glad to see the team fixing the problems.
I know it’s completely unrelated but have the team thought of developing any wordpress plugins with regards to making donations and showing totals? I think it would help in the uptake of people spreading the word easier and donating more.
Cheers.
How do I update my page to show the money rasied so far off-line?
Hi Nathan
To update your fundraising page to show an offline amount, just sign into your account, choose which page you want to edit by selecting the ‘Edit Page’ button, then ‘Amend Fundraising Page’ and you’ll be able to add an offline total below the progress thermometer on your page.
Hope that helps

I’ve lost the countdown widget from the bottom-left corner of my page. How do I restore it?
I am unable to see my fundraising page (Vernon Monument) on my account?
Hi Paul,
Can you post a link to your page and we’ll take a look. Normally this can be switched on or off by editing your page from within your account. You’ll see a check box at the top to tick to put the countdown timer on your page.

Hi,
I’ve raised a fair amount online so far however my thermometer on the right hasn’t moved at all. Can you explain why?
Thanks
Lisa
Hi Lisa
Your thermometer will only go up if you’ve got a target on your page, so you can see how close you are to hitting it.
To make it rise up, you can easily add a fundraising target to your page, and you can increase it any time if you ‘achieve’ it with donations. Sign into your account on virgin money giving, select ‘edit page’ for the page you want to update, and then ‘amend fundraising page’ from here you’ll be able to enter directly onto the thermometer panel how much you want to raise. When you click save, the thermometer will raise up to show the percentage towards it you are.
Hope that helps

my offline target raised doesn’t go up when I add to it – am I doing something wrong or has the above stuff that you did stopped working?
Hi, if you could send across a link to your fundraising page we’ll take a look into this for you. ^GB
