Get your donations matched, for a limited time only!

500x300_for_landing_page

We’re very excited to announce that thanks to our friends at PayPal, each Wednesday for the next 5 weeks between 5-6pm we’re matching up to £5,000 worth of PayPal donations made through Virgin Money Giving.

The clock will start ticking at 5pm on Wednesday 21 May and any donations up to the value of £100 (excluding Gift Aid) could be matched. But hurry because once the £5,000 limit has been reached that’s it until the next Wednesday. It’s first donate, first doubled!

The PayPal matching will start to hit fundraising pages each Friday of the week your donation has been matched, if they were part of the first £5,000.

Don’t have a fundraising page set up yet? Why not set one up before next Wednesday’s Double Donation Day and you could get your first donations matched!

How do we know if the donation has been matched?

  2. 2 Ellie (Virgin Money Giving) May 21, 2014 at 4:12 pm

Hi Emma, you will see your donation matched on the Friday following the Wednesday the donation was made. It will show on your Virgin Money Giving page from PayPal. Thanks, Ellie.

    Hi Emma,

Keep an eye on your page on Friday and if you got in before the £5,000 limit was reached, you’ll see your donation matched.
    Fingers crossed.

    Thanks,

  6. 6 Damon May 23, 2014 at 12:39 pm

If our donations were going to be doubled would they have been done so already?

  7. 7 Ellie (Virgin Money Giving) May 23, 2014 at 3:24 pm

    Hi Damon,

That’s right. We’ve done the donation matching for this week so if you were one of the lucky ones that got in within the £5k limit you’ll see it on your fundraising page now.

    Thanks

We already have a fundraising page. Do we need to link it to the PayPal match funding or is it automatic? Thanks. Alan and the rest of the wet crew fundraising for the AHOY centre.

Hi, my friend made a donation to a charity of £100 with gift aid added making it £125. I know the give away doesn’t double give aid money but would the £100 donation been doubled? I am worried that the total of £125 would have made the donation not count. Also, I don’t see the donation doubled by now, does that mean is hasn’t been? He said he made the donation at 5.03, was that too late?

  10. 10 Ain May 26, 2014 at 10:51 am

Do you know when was the limit reached last wednesday? Thank you!:)

  11. 11 Lisa May 28, 2014 at 12:06 pm

Can I confirm the time clocked used with you please. Posting this at 13:06

  12. 12 Paul May 29, 2014 at 1:46 pm

Would be interesting to know how quickly this money goes, I had a donation at 5.05 last Wednesday and it looks like the money wasn’t matched, so all £5K gone in less than 5 minutes!

I will wait with baited breath to see if this weeks donations get matched

    Hi
I added funds within a few minutes after 5pm, How does it work?

  14. 14 Helen May 30, 2014 at 6:30 pm

How does that matching show I donated on Wednesday 17:00

  15. 15 Amy (Virgin Money Giving) June 3, 2014 at 9:48 am

    Hi Alan,
You don’t need to do anything – if someone donates via Paypal and is within the first £5,000 of donations, their donation will automatically be matched.
    Thanks,
    Amy

    Hi Mike,
At 5pm we match the first £5,000 of donations up to £100 per donation.
So if your donation was within the first £5,000, we would match it up to £100. If someone donated £200, we’d still just match £100.
Wishing you the best of luck!
    Thanks,
    Amy

    Hi Lisa,
Apologies for the late reply. Unfortunately the time stamp on our post comes from the server not from the moment you post it, however it looks about right. We’re working to British Summer Time.

    Hi Paul,
Yes lots of people have been very quick off the mark with lots of generous donations so the full £5,000 has been going very quickly.
Wishing you the best of luck for the next 3 Wednesdays.
    Fastest finger first!
    Best wishes,

    Hi Chris,
The first £5,000 of donations made after 5pm are matched up to £100 per donation. People were very fast off the mark and there were lots of very generous donations so the money has been going very quickly.
Wishing you the best of luck for the next 3.

    Hi Helen,
The first £5,000 worth of donations after 5pm are matched up to £100 each Wednesday. It may be that the full £5,000 was gone before your donation was made.
    Good luck next time.
    Thanks,

Hello Amy, thank you for the above response. Confused about the ‘it looks about right’ element though…so is your server working ‘exactly’ one hour behind the real time? I know the moment that I am posting this 23:56 and so are you confirming that timings of donations are not based on your ‘server’ time which is actually set an hour behing BST?

I was considering making a donation at 16:02 based on this assumption!

    Hi Ross

It most definitely has been 5-6pm each Wednesday. Best of luck!

    Hi Lisa

Our Virgin Money Giving Blog runs on a separate server to the server that hosts the Virgin Money Giving donation website. Our The clock on our blog server runs on GMT all through the year, so we don’t get an adjustment on comments posted in the summer for BST.

For the donation matching campaign with PayPal that’s currently running your tour donation needs to be made at 5pm BST, so don’t make a donation at 16:02 as you’ll be too early!

But to re-assure you the clock on our server is running correctly.

    Hope that helps

    Antony

Thank you for your reassurance Antony. Lisa

  25. 25 Dawn June 6, 2014 at 3:36 pm

Are direct donations matched or just those for individual fundraisers? I made a Paypal donation at 17.01 and received confirmation at 17.02 but don’t know if it’s been matched or not.

  26. 26 Paul June 6, 2014 at 8:31 pm

Well having made a donation at 5:01 which wasn’t matched I guess you should be also advising don’t wait until 5:02

  27. 27 Joanne reddin June 6, 2014 at 9:04 pm

Has the matching all been done already

  28. 28 Mike Cadge June 6, 2014 at 10:18 pm

Hey, I made my donation on the dot and it didn’t get matched. It was literally on the dot according to the precise time I got from a website. And it was the final confirmation donation button at the end but it wasn’t matched. Is there any way of checking why mine wasn’t matched?

  29. 29 Amy (Virgin Money Giving) June 9, 2014 at 4:24 pm

    Hi Mike,
Could you provide me with the Virgin Money Giving page link you donated to and the email address you donated with?
    Thank you,
    Amy

  30. 30 Amy (Virgin Money Giving) June 9, 2014 at 4:24 pm

    Hi Joanne,
If your donation was matched it would have shown up on the fundraising page on Friday.

  31. 31 Amy (Virgin Money Giving) June 9, 2014 at 4:25 pm

    Hi Dawn,
It is donations to individuals’ fundraising pages that would be matched.
    Hope this helps.
    Thank you,

    Hi Paul,
We can never tell beforehand how quickly people will use up the £5,000 limit but people are definitely working hard to be the first finger on the button!
    Good luck.

  33. 34 Amy (Virgin Money Giving) June 11, 2014 at 9:10 am

    Hi Mike,

I’m really sorry – the competition was to match donations made to fundraising pages via PayPal, not the main charity pages.
    http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/giving/the-555-wednesday-giveaway/
    I hope this makes sense.

    Thank you,

I’m confused. I used Paypal to make the donation.

  35. 36 Amy (Virgin Money Giving) June 16, 2014 at 10:54 am

    Hi Mike,

The donation needed to be made to an individual’s fundraising page, not the main charity page.

    Thanks,
    Amy

I made my donation this Wednesday on the dot (and got the confirmation email within seconds at 5:00pm) but it looks like it hasn’t been matched. My email address is aarikaau@msn.com and my page is http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/AarikaAu

  37. 38 Ellie (Virgin Money Giving) June 20, 2014 at 11:53 am

    Hello,
Thanks for sending in your query. Any donations that were matched will show on fundraising pages by the end of today if they were successful with ‘PayPal’ as their reference. As you can imagine the £5k was used up very quickly, in previous weeks it was used up within 30 seconds so your donation may have been slightly outside of this window. But it’s great you got an extra donation for your charity! Maybe wait until the end of the day and fingers crossed you were one of the quickest.
    Many thanks
    Ellie
