How to link Facebook’s new ‘Donate Now’ button to your Virgin Money Giving charity page

If you’re a Virgin Money Giving charity and you’re using a Facebook page to share the latest news, fundraising appeals, and to showcase the great work that your charity is doing, there’s a new feature rolling out that you’re going to want to make the most of.

Some time ago Facebook added a ‘call to action’ button on the header image of all Facebook pages. You can see one of our charity members Mind using it here to encourage visitors to contact them.

There are several call to action types available which allow you to choose a label the button and provide a URL for it to link to.

But for Facebook pages which are ‘non-profits’ there’s a new option currently rolling out to make that button say ‘Donate Now’ and what’s more you can point that button directly at your Virgin Money Giving page.

Setting it up for your charity page is really straight forward for you (or your Facebook page admin).

  1. Head to your Facebook page and make sure you’re signed in and ‘managing’ the page.
  2. Click the call to action button in your header image (if you’re already set it as something else pick the ‘Edit Call to Action’ option from the menu). It’ll only be available if your Charity page is set to the type of ‘non profit’ or ‘Charity Organisaion’. If your page is set to something else here’s how you update it.
  3. Now on the options popup select the type of button as ‘Donate Now’ and copy/paste in your Virgin Money Giving donation URL (this can be a direct to charity donation, campaign page, or a specific fundraising page).

  4. Once you’re setup just click ‘Save Changes’ and you’re done.

Measure your progressFacebook will also help you track the clicks, so you can see how many people are clicking the button.

When managing your charity page take a look at the stats on the right hand edge, you’ll see the number of clicks your call to action button is receiving (in the example to the right the button is set to ‘Watch Video’.

You can of course change the button action from time to time, but it’s another great way to help drive donations for your charity from your fundraising page. There are lots of other ‘Call to Action’ options that might suit different campaigns such as:

  • Watch Video
  • Contact Us
  • Book Now
  • Use App

With all of these options you simply provide the URL you’d like the button to link to, but of course a Donate Now button linked to your Virgin Money Giving is of course the best option!
