Virgin Money has extended its sponsorship of the London Marathon until 2020, when the 40th London Marathon will take place. This means that Virgin Money Giving will also remain the official fundraising platform for the next five years. Since Virgin Money became a sponsor in 2010, the Marathon has raised over £315 million for charity.
It was the London Marathon sponsorship that led to Virgin Money setting up its not-for-profit online fundraising website six years ago. Since then, over £344 million of donations have been raised for charities through Virgin Money Giving, and when you include Gift Aid, that’s over £407 million! And because we’re not-for-profit, so far over £12.8 million extra has reached charities.
Jayne-Anne Gadhia, CEO of Virgin Money, took part in the 2015 Virgin Money London Marathon so has personal experience of what is a very inspiring day. The London Marathon is the world’s biggest one-day fundraiser of the year, with tens of thousands of people running it every year to support good causes. Jayne-Anne said she is “delighted to announce an extension to Virgin Money’s sponsorship of the London Marathon”, a record breaking fundraising event.
